Krškopoljski prašiči bodo pomagali obnoviti poplavni gozd ob Muri

Pri pripravi tal za novo generacijo dreves bodo pomagali krškopoljski prašiči.

Na ograjeni površini državnega gozda v Murski šumi bodo izvedli nadzorovano gozdno pašo s prašiči. Kot so sporočili z Zavoda RS za varstvo narave (ZRSVN), bosta njihovo ritje in gibanje pomagala pripraviti tla, da se bo poplavni gozd lažje pomladil po naravni poti.

Naravno pomlajevanje poplavnih gozdov ob Muri je marsikje oteženo. Tla prekriva gosta zeliščna plast, pogosto sestavljena tudi iz invazivnih tujerodnih rastlin. Semena zato težje pridejo do tal in vzklijejo, mladim drevesom pa primanjkuje svetlobe.

Prašiči naravno obdelujejo zemljo

Krškopoljski prašiči med iskanjem hrane rijejo po tleh, zmanjšujejo zeliščni sloj ter premešajo zgornjo plast tal. S tem nastanejo gole zaplate, na katerih imajo semena dreves boljše možnosti za kalitev.

»Cilj ni zasaditi povsem novega gozda, temveč ustvariti ugodnejše razmere, da se obstoječi gozd obnovi sam,« pojasnjujejo na ZRSVN.

Živali bodo na izbrani, dvojno ograjeni površini le toliko časa, kolikor bo potrebno za pripravo tal.

Poskusno na dveh hektarjih Murske šume

Ukrep v okviru projekta Natura Mura–Drava bodo izvedli na skupno dveh hektarjih državnega gozda – na območjih vrbovih in topolovih ter hrastovih gozdov. Podobno metodo so v preteklih projektih že preizkusili in se je po navedbah ZRSVN izkazala za uspešno.

Če bo tudi tokrat uspešna, bi lahko zmanjšala potrebo po obsežnejši strojni pripravi tal, sajenju in drugih posegih ter s tem tudi zmanjšala stroške obnove.

Na uspešnost naravnega pomlajevanja bodo vplivali količina semen, vreme, vlaga in ponovna rast zelišč. Razvoj mladega gozda bodo zato spremljali tudi po koncu paše, po potrebi pa sta predvideni še dodatna setev oziroma saditev.

Za izvedbo ukrepa je odgovoren projektni partner Slovenski državni gozdovi, ZRSVN pa sodeluje pri njegovem načrtovanju in strokovnem spremljanju.
