Lani rekordno malo gozdnih požarov v Amazoniji, bo “super El Niño” vse spremenil?

Zaščita Amazonije je ključnega pomena v boju proti najhujšim posledicam podnebnih sprememb, saj njena gosta vegetacija absorbira toplogredne pline, ki povzročajo globalno segrevanje.

Lani je bilo požganih 3,1 milijona hektarjev gozdov Amazonije – najmanjša površina od začetka beleženja podatkov leta 1985.

Tudi izsekavanje gozdov v največjem deževnem gozdu na svetu se je lani zmanjšalo, pravi poročilo mreže za spremljanje okolja MapBiomas.

Vrhunec požarov leta 2024

Euronews poroča, da so gozdni požari v Amazoniji dosegli vrhunec leta 2024, ko je suša sprožila širjenje požarov, od katerih jih je večino povzročil človek. Ognjeni zublji so povzročili velike izgube dreves, rastlin, redkih prostoživečih živali in življenjski prostor domorodnim skupnostim.

»Deževna sezona med letoma 2024 in 2025 je preprečila nastanek idealnega časa za kurjenje na določenih območjih, kjer se ogenj uporablja za čiščenje kmetijskih zemljišč,« je dejala geografinja in koordinatorka poročila Ane Alencar.

Bo “super El Niño” prinesel sušno obdobje?

Marca letos je ameriška Nacionalna uprava za oceane in atmosfero (NOAA) napovedala 62-odstotno verjetnost nastanka El Niña poleti (med oktobrom in decembrom 2026). V Amazoniji bi to lahko prineslo »daljšo sušno dobo in večje tveganje za gozdne požare«, je pojasnila koordinatorka poročila. Ali se bodo napovedi uresničile, bo pokazal čas.
